was born in 1965 in Hinsbeck in the Niederrhein region in Germany. He took his first organ lessons with Wolfgang Seifen (professor at the Berlin University of the Arts since 2000) and graduated at the Conservatory for Church Music “St. Gregorius Haus” in Aachen. From there his studies took him to Paris, where he studied with Professor Jean-Paul Imbert and graduated cum laude in 2001 for his “diplome de concert”. In 1997 he won a prize in the first international organ competition in Korschenbroich.
Elmar Lehnen has worked for ten years as the cantor of the parish of St. Anna in Mönchengladbach-Windberg, where he started the concert series “Windberger Sacred Concerts”. He also was the musical director of this concert series. In October 2000, he was called as organist at the papal Marienbasilica Kevelaer, the well-known place of pilgrimage. He has been responsible for the musical accompaniment of the daily liturgical services and for the organisation of concert series, which include concerts with international guests. Elmar Lehnen is often invited to give concerts abroad. Since 2008, he is also the musical director of the basilica choir, the family choir, the basilica orchestra and the wind orchestra. Furthermore he is the conductor of the widely renowned choir KaLoBrHi in Nettetal. |
